Description
A very fine 19  Century  "  Hand Painted Large Figurine of a Gay Cavalier " decorated in the  manner  the Meissen Factories-Studios  and  most likely Dresden  , late 19  Century .     This work is  ATTRIBUTED TO-AND MOST LIKELY DECORATED by the workshop of Helena Wolfsohn and features the fine workmanship for which she became famous. Circa 1849-1900 .    We believe this is  a work after Meissen from the Helena Wolfsohn  studio but decorated by her artists , unsigned but has a partial impressed mark under the glaze the resembles a partial mark" A interlaced with R" a variation of the mark listed in Kovel  Pottery Marks book .  Helena Wolfsohn owned a porcelain decorating studio which began operation in Dresden, Germany, in 1843. During her lifetime, her shop was one of the most prolific decorating studios in Dresden. She did not produce porcelain but purchased white blanks from Meissen as well as from other famous porcelain factories. Her mark was often mistaken for one of those factories, especially Meissen. Whether or not this was done on purpose to deceive is still in question amongst historians. What is not in question, however, is that she painted pieces of exceptional quality and artistic merit, and that her wares have become very collectible in their own right.   This Drop Dead beautiful work stands at 15.25 inches from the base to the tip of his hat and on base 5.25 inches in diameter . There are NO VISABLE damage or repairs and in mint condition.  Additional images are available by request , I have several others , showing the full details for your kind inspection. Please take not the camera can not do justice to the true beauty of the details of this work.            There are NO images available of the incised mark in the base , it would no photo at all !    This is truly a Museum Quality work , that would make a great addition to any collection of Fine German Porcelains and give the collector many years of enduring enjoyment .
