See more about '19th c ROYAL FRENCH ORMOLU Enamel OPALINE GLASS EGG BOX' Description Item Specifics Product Type : HP ART GLASS ENAMEL EGG Material: SATIN Opaline GLASS METAL NEST Theme : SPRING EGG w/BUTTERFLY+FLOWERS ART NOUVEAU VINE LEAF BASE: OUTSTANDING CONDITION V RAREHI, thanks for l@@king.  We have here a Very Rare & Hard to Find, VICTORIAN Era, 19TH CENTURY,  FRENCH,  SATIN OPALINE, ART GLASS EGG Shaped TRINKET BOX, DECORATED with HANDPAINTED ENAMEL FLOWERS and a BUTTERFLY.  The ORMOLU metal fittings are in the organic style of early ART NOUVEAU w/ vines, leaves and bamboo lattice work acting as the NEST / BASE to this HINGED BOX or CASKET.   The lime green glass lidded, has been handpainted w/ enamel raised work w/ flowers, leaves, stems and a COLORFUL BUTTERFLY.  This is from EUROPE and probably from  FRANCE, and might have been acquired while on the GRAND TOUR.   This is in  OUTSTANDING CONDITION and we will describe this in several ways.  First the glass.  We collect fine glass and know how to inspect it  for damage w/ both a visual and touch test.  Upon a careful  inspection, we found this to be FREE of any damage, no dings, nicks, flakes, cracks or repairs.  The glass rings like a bell,  which is a sign of it not having any hidden cracks.  The metal frame / NEST:  This is made from some type of metal, it might be brass or BRONZE,  and we are sure it is not pot metal. The metal has a great patina that comes with age, but it was polished a long time ago.  The hinge works perfectly and this closes w/ a light amount of pressure on the lid and stays closed.  The egg is nested in this footed base.  There are no repairs to the metal work.  Painted surface.  It is well done and almost perfect, no flake or chips just a little surface wear which is normal and expected with something over 110 year old,  a high 9 as to condition.    Size is about:   4" tall, when closed.
