Description
Up for auction is this rare VINTAGE ART DECOBAUHAUS TEA SET / COFFEE SET manufactured by WMF (Württembergische Metallwaren Fabrik) TEAPOT + CREAMER + TWO HANDLED SUGAR BOWL This is a stunning THREE PIECE TEA or COFFEE SET of the ART DECO / BAUHAUS ERA in GERMANY. ORIGIN, DATE:Germany, ca. 1920s - 1940s MATERIALS:Ceramic, silver-plated brass & white bakelite Every piece is hallmarked with the WMF mark. The teapot has a silverplated felt lined cozy on white bakelite feet.It is hallmarked with the D.R.P. (DEUTSCHES REICH PATENT) mark. MEASUREMENTS: teapot - 6.75" high x 11" handle to spout - 1220 grams milk jug - 3" high x 5.75" handle to spout - 300 grams sugar bowl - 4" high x 5.25" handle to handle - 330 grams Total weight is ca. 1.85 kg / 4 lbs CONDITION:Excellent condition with a beautiful patina of age and some very light wear to the silver. The ceramic is flawless. A STUNNING SET, DON´T MISS THIS UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY !! I think that if someone had shown me this set as an example of ART DECO 35 years ago I might have understood the movement and its purpose and origins and its attraction a lot earlier than I did. This is such a perfect example that I simply had to have it (and another (Dutch) one we'll be listing later in the month). This set is flawless for its age and nearly priceless. And, it still works, and works well. You can even make coffee or tea in the ceramic teapot using a mirowave, slip-on the silver cozy, and the beverage stays warm for hours! There is a reserve on this piece- it cost a lot to bring it here from Germany, but it was worth it, if only for its artistic value.
