Maritime collectors lament the loss of such monuments much as railroad fans bemoan the demise of their beloved caboose. Prevalent at a time when a ship’s safety depended upon the keeper of the lighthouse, now most of these buildings are relegated to historical preservation. The artist’s interest in these buildings was fueled by his move to San Diego County which is home to Cabrillo National Monument and the Point Loma Lighthouse.  With this particular sculpture, the artist demonstrates an ability to combine the geometric structure of this symbolic beacon with the free-form details of the rocky cliffs and the swirling surf below. This magnificently detailed rendition is unique to Prochaska Galleries and is personally signed by the artist. This blown glass figurine measures approximately 7 inches tall and is made entirely by hand of borosilicate crystal. The unusual details of the water are created by hundreds of tiny air bubbles delicately folded into the molten glass and then stretched into the foamy wave-like form.
