Description
Huge Sale from Multiple Estates... Offering this Amazing Ketak Coiled Basket from my father's estate Truly, a basket collectors dream... This hand woven basket measures approximately 5' wide x 30" high. It is densely woven out of a natural fiber called Ketak, also known as Atta (Ata) Grass. This is a strong palm grass that is favored by the weavers because of its resistance to water, heat and insects. Ketak is wrapped around a strong inner core such as rattan (rotan). It usually takes about a year to weave a basket of this size. Baskets such as this one is usually made by the grooms family to hold the brides dowry. It is said that the more important the bride and her family, the bigger the basket. There is little storage in Lombok village houses, so baskets of all types and sizes are created for such uses. A basket of this size would most likely be used to store clothing and textiles. This basket and it's lid is in very nice condition. There are some grass strands that have pulled but it does't take away from the grandeur and quality of this basket. The basket sits at a tilt and am not sure if this was intentional. There are no obvious stains or discolorations. I can't tell you the exact age of this basket but do know that my father purchased it for his California art gallery during his travels to Bali in the late 1970's.   I'm sorry but this basket is too big for me to ship. If you would like to set up your own shipping for this item perhaps with UPS pick up, I would be happy to cooperate. I would also be willing to obtain a quote from UPS for them to pack and ship this item for you upon request. Pick up or shipping arrangements must be made within 7 days of auctions end. Please ask any and all questions before bidding. I am not an expert (by far) and did my best describing this item and in providing all the information I could find. I will refund the cost of the item if the item received if is not as described in the auction. Please contact me within 7 days of receipt and I guarantee that any problems will be resolved to your full satisfaction. I'm sorry but this item is not offered for sale to international buyers, U.S. only. Watch my auctions for many more unique estate items such as Antiques (American, Asian, Native American, etc.), Art, Collectables, Stamps and Coin, Comic Books, Designer Clothing, Jewelry, Textiles, China, Silver and so much more. My Fathers estate: Many of the items I will be auctioning off are items inherited from my Grandmother and my Father. My Father, William Larson Sr., passed away just over a year ago after losing his battle with Cancer. Dad founded one of the West Coast most successful pizza chains called "Round Table Pizza," see him in action pictured below. In addition to having interest in the restaurant business, he was passionate about art and antiques. My father had a huge collection and never threw anything away. You may read more about my father at our online exhibit at www.worldoflegendsart.com. My Grandmothers estate: My Grandmother, Tamara Volsky, was born 1912 in Odessa, Russia. Her Father, who was in the military, sent Grandmother and her Mother on a boat to China just before the Bolshevik Revolution. Grandmother married my Grandfather in Shanghai and gave birth to my mother. Grandmother got a job at the Shanghai Match Company working as an assistant to Edwin Varland. In 1950, Grandmother divorced my Grandfather and left China with Edwin (her lover) for the Philippines where Edwin was appointed Consul General to the Philippines and then Swedish Ambassador. God bless them all and may they rest in peace. I AM NOT AN EXPERT AND HAVE DESCRIBED THIS ITEM BASED ON MY OWN PERSONAL OPINIONS. I TRY TO BE AS ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE AND AM ALWAYS COMPLETELY HONEST. I treat everyone the way I would want to be treated, with fairness and respect. Please don't hesitate to email me with your questions. International Bidders; I do not accept returns and/or offer refunds to international buyers because of the time and cost involved. International buyers are responsible for any custom fees that may occur. Although I pack very well, buyer is responsible for obtaining insurance. I am not responsible for lost or damaged items under any circumstances. If insurance is purchased, buyer is responsible for filing any and all claims. If buyer does not purchase insurance, buyer is totally responsible for any lost, stolen, damaged or non-delivered items that have been shipped. For multiple item auctions (Lots), items may be shipped in multiple packages with calculating the least expensive shipping cost...otherwise called "creative shipping" to save you money. Of course, if you have a preference, I would be more than happy to accommodate that may result in higher shipping cost for the buyer.
